Angelina Jolie Covers WSJ Magazine for November 2015

Given all that she’s accomplished, both personally and professionally, it’s only natural that Angelina Jolie is the honored recipient of WSJ Magazine’s Entertainment/Film Innovator of the Year award. In her cover story for the November 2015 issue, the “Girl, Interrupted” gal chats about her new movie “By the Sea” in which she starred alongside husband Brad Pitt as well as served as director- “It was not easy. We just had to be brave and say, ‘OK, honey, we’re strong enough to do this; let’s somehow use this to make us stronger.’”

Angelina also noted that her relationship dynamic with Pitt had to change while they were on the set- “We had to stay in our corners, like boxers, and not be husband and wife. It was very hard to do those scenes without Brad and I taking care of each other. Normally in between takes, you’d make sure that the other’s OK, but we had to be able to really get ugly.”

Lenovo is pricing the 11" Yoga 700 at $649, while the larger 14" model costs $799. Sales commence from next month.

Apple Releases Beats Pill+ App For iOS And Android

Apple has released a new app for those who own the Beats Pill+ Bluetooth speaker. The app is not just available on iOS but also on Android.  Although you don't need the app to use the product, which works normally like any other Bluetooth speaker system, the app lets you control some additional functionality, such as being able to customize the audio quality, connect two Pill speakers to your device and then adjust their volume individually through the app, connect two audio sources to a single Pill speaker, keep track of the power levels of your Pill speaker and get additional software updates and product support.

Both apps are now available on their respective stores. Unfortunately, the Android app is once again being bombarded with 1 star ratings by petty manbabies who literally do not have anything better to do with their time.

Simple Tips To De-stress In Minutes

While some of us may be better at handling it than others, all of us would have experienced the emotion to different degrees at some point or the other. And the worst part is that it could strike at the most inopportune moment, in the middle of a meeting, while working on an important project, or while having a decisive argument with your spouse.

Familiar with that unpleasant feeling when you feel helpless to handle things any more and the whole world seems to crash?

All is not lost, however, there are ways with which you can destress and regain your composure in a matter of minutes. Check out how:

Pause, find a window or any space away from where you are now, and take deep breaths.

The idea is to stall the attack of the stress hormones. A series of deep breaths can calm you down instantly, but make sure that you don't think about the issue at hand while doing this.

Plug on the music

Keep a list of tracks ready which can instantly soothe you and distract you. A few minutes of listening to your favourite track and you will find yourself much better equipped to deal with any problem.

Talk to someone

There is nothing better than talking to the person sitting next to you at work or any trusted friend when you feel stress taking over. Even if you talk about inconsequential things, you will feel calmer. And if you find yourself all alone, nothing better than calling up your mother.

There is a solution

Get out of the pre-conceived notion that you are doomed. Realise that every problem has a solution, and finding it is what you should focus your energies on.

Step out

If it's possible, step outdoors for a few minutes. Any excuse is permissible here, to use the washroom or a smoke. Observe the people on the street for a few minutes, or look up at the sky. You will suddenly get a different perspective on things.

If none of these work, consult a good physician who can prescribe medication and therapy, if you feel that stress is making your daily life exhausting. Whatever you do, realise that everyone is entitled to happiness and a sense of well being and you too deserve your share.

Top 6 Survival Skills For Diabetes

This makes it important to be self-aware, and skilled in these care methods. Today, on World Diabetes Day 2012, Ms. Sunita Pathania - Sr. Registered Dietician and Diabetes Educator, Healthy Living Diet Clinic, Mumbai, shares a few steps to help you manage diabetes better.

Survival step 1: Diabetes and its treatment

Diabetes is a condition that causes high blood sugar. It cannot be completely cured but it can definitely be managed. There are basically two types of diabetes, the first being Type 1 diabetes, wherein the body's immune system destroys the insulin producing cells in the pancreas. Due to low insulin level, it is treated with daily insulin injections and a healthy diet. The second type is Type 2 diabetes, here the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or does not use insulin efficiently. It is treated by implementing a diet modification, exercise plan or oral medication.

Survival step 2: Time-to-time medication

Medicines and injections are very important to manage your diabetes level. Whichever medicines your doctor prescribes for you, take detailed information about its dosage, and follow it the way advised by your doctor. Whenever you make any appointment with any healthcare professional, take the list of all the medicines you have been advised to manage your diabetes level, to avoid any medicinal complications.

Survival step 3: The right FOOD

You need to take heed to what you eat to manage diabetes. Follow a diet planned for you by your dietician to maintain your weight and to lower your blood sugar. Never skip meals and eat three small meals to keep blood sugar level in control.

Survival step 4: Self-tests

Testing your blood sugar is the next important thing to do. This will give your healthcare the necessary information required so that he can balance between your diet, physical activity and medications accordingly. If your blood sugar falls below 70 or is above 240 more than two times in a week then call your doctor.

Survival step 5: High and low blood sugar

An unbalanced blood sugar level can lead to serious complications. If your blood sugars are low (less than 70) treat it immediately with 15 grams of carbohydrates like 3-4 glucose tablets, ½ juice or 1 cup skimmed milk. After this wait for 15 minutes and retest your blood sugar level. If it is still low then treat it again with 15 grams of carbohydrate. Whereas, if you have high blood sugar level, then test your blood sugar every 4 hours, drink at least 8 glasses of water to prevent dehydration and consume 45-50 grams of carbohydrates every four hours. Examples of 45-50 grams of carbohydrates are orange or grape juice 1 ½ cups, canned fruit 1 ½ cups, toast 3 slice and regular yoghurt 1 cup.

If you have type 1 diabetes and your blood sugar is greater than 240, test for ketones at every meal.

Survival step 6: Preventive exams

Prevent small cuts to convert it into major complications. If you are a diabetic patient even tiny cuts can develop into a major infection that may require amputating that part of your body. Hence, check your feet daily. Go for an eye check up and complete body check up to prevent long term complications.

Don't ignore mini-strokes: Stroke specialist

Leading neurologists and stroke specialists here on Thursday urged women to seek immediate medical attention in case of "mini-strokes" as delaying treatment could increase risk of a major stroke.

"Women are care-givers and so they generally do not pay much attention to slight temporary changes that occur during their activities. Mini-strokes or Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) basically means that brain function is disrupted for a short time (less than 24 hours)," said Nabin Sarkar, senior consultant neurologist and stroke specialist at the Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals here.

"It can last for 30 to 90 minutes and many do not even notice the signs such as sudden numbness in arms or slurred speech etc.," he said.

Sarkar and colleague Shankar Loharuka sounded the alarm bell on the risks associated with mini-strokes.

"One in twelve run the risk of getting a major stroke within 48 hours of TIA and within a week, it increases to ten percent. So instead of taking signs of numbness lightly, women should immediately go to a hospital where stroke management services are available," they said.

In commemoration of World Stroke Day, the experts emphasised the gender-benders when it comes to stroke and its recovery and severity.

"Chances of recovery is less for women as compared to men and even severity is more for women. They are more likely to die of strokes than a man," the experts said, adding community awareness and educating women as well as their partners is important.

They suggested the F.A.S.T. system to remember the sudden signs of stroke: face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty and time to call (the doctor or emergency service).

Beauty Tips: How To Deal With Parched Skin

Dry skin can be a serious issue, especially because it could lead to early wrinkles, fine lines and other skin problems.

Stop Using Gel-based Products

Face washes, night creams and body soaps that are gel-based, tend to dehydrate the top layer of your skin. Choose hypoallergenic, anti-comedone products that are creamy and oil-based. These help to hydrate skin and the protective layer does not allow natural moisture to escape.

Get A Body Massage

Every day before your bath, you must indulge in a 10-minute body massage using olive oil. This will nourish your skin and keep it soft.

Protect Your Skin From The Sun

Sunscreens are a must, no matter what the season is. Choose one that has a broad spectrum with ultra violet protection and apply generously not just on your face but all the exposed parts of your body.

Optimise Your Water Intake

Drink at least three litres of water throughout the day. This will help your skin stay youthful — while dry skin can make you look older, hydration leads to supple, younger skin.

Taylor Swift: Suing Handsy Radio Deejay

Earlier this year David Mueller sued Taylor Swift after he lost his job at 98.5 KYGO’s “Ryno and Jackson” morning show for allegedly groping her and now the “Shake It Off” songstress has filed her own countersuit. According to reports, Mueller insisted he never “grabbed Swift’s butt” during a 2013 meet and greet, and he sought damages due to the fact that he was fired.

However, Taylor has a much different story. Her filing states, “Ms. Swift knows exactly who committed the assault — it was Mueller. He intentionally reached under her skirt, and groped with his hand an intimate part of her body in an inappropriate manner, against her will, and without her permission. Mueller did not merely brush his hand against Ms. Swift while posing for the photograph. He lifted her skirt and groped her. Swift was surprised, upset, offended, and alarmed.

Her hope is that a resolution of this counterclaim will demonstrate that Mueller alone was the perpetrator of the humiliating and wrongful conduct targeted against Ms. Swift, and will serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts.”
