According to Motorola, the Moto360 smartwatch will have an “approximate retail value” of $249. That’s a value folks – not a price, as the company was keen to stress.
The
figure emerged in the terms and conditions of its new Moto 360 Design
Face-Off competition. As first prize, it’s offering the Android Wear-based smartwatch.
Motorola
said that the price is merely provided for tax purposes and doesn’t
necessarily reflect how much it will cost when it arrives.
“Thanks for your excitement around our Moto 360 Design Face-Off contest!,” the spokesperson wrote.
“We
want to make clear that the ‘approximate retail value’ (ARV) indicated
in our rules is included for tax purposes only and should not be
interpreted as the suggested retail price of the Moto 360 when it
becomes available for purchase.”
While Motorola has confirmed the existence of the smartwatch – and released the above picture – little else is known about the device.
The
only addition details we know is that it will run Android Wear, work
with any Android device running 4.3 and above, it is water resistance
and doesn’t come with any external ports for charging or data transfer.
