Julia Louis-Dreyfus took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress
in a Comedy Series for her lead role in HBO's "Veep" Sunday night. This
is the sixth primetime Emmy award Louis-Dreyfus has earned for her
contributions to the television arts. "I think it would be appropriate at this moment to quote our
American politics show. 'What a great honor it must be for you to honor
me tonight.' No, wait, no, I'm so sorry, Donald Trump said that," the
actress said as she accepted her award. "It's getting trickier and
trickier to satirize his stuff," she added.
"Veep," a wonderfully on-point political comedy, like a "Parks and
Recreation" script accidentally bled into "House of Cards," finished up
its fourth season this year. Louis-Dreyfus beat out five other actresses
for the accolade: Lily Tomlin, Amy Schumer, Edie Falco, Lisa Kudrow and
Amy Poehler, who managed to squeeze in a quick disco nap from the
comfort of her seat.
