Yo is a messaging app that has but a singular function: send the word ‘Yo’ to your friends.
Simple? Yes. Insane? Incredibly so. But the app boasts a 50,000-strong user base and $1-million (£590,000) funding.
Life
Before Us says the app only takes two taps to send the word ‘Yo’ to a
friend, far less than the 11-tap ‘Yo’ it alleges rival messenger
Whatsapp offers. “The simplest and most efficient
communication tool in the world,” says LBU. “Yo is everything and
anything, it all depends on you, the recipient and the time of the Yo.”
The
app, available since April 1st on iOS and Android, offers would-be
Yo-ers advice such as “Wanna say ‘thinking bout you’ to your love? Just
yo.”
Users simply choose a username, add their friends, and start Yo-ing to their hearts content.
“Magnificent
in its simplicity,” says the Edinburgler, in his review on the iOS app
store. “My life is complete now that I have this app.”
“Unbelievably
bad,” scorns fellow reviewer ClaireH17. “A waste of the 20 seconds it
took to download, complete every function, then tweet about how bad it
is.” “Yo,” says Marshalman. Yo, indeed.
