Google has just announced that its Glass Explorer program will be available to buy in the UK from today. The announcement means anyone aged 18 or up can snag themselves a pair of Google’s flagship smart-specs online, albeit for a hefty £1000 apiece.
Although
the device is still a prototype for now, the Explorer program gives
people a chance to test out Glass ahead of the official launch. Glass
is Google's wearable PC, and comes in the form of a lightweight display
frame that sits about users' eyes, offering hands-free info to willing
gadgeteers.
Alongside the launch came the announcement of four new Glassware partners, who will provide software for the high-tech eyewear.
Amongst
these is The Guardian, promising to beam breaking news direct to your
retinas, as well as Goal.com, which looks to keep footie fans up to date
with latest from the pitch. New Glassware partner
StarChart makes more creative use of the AR optics by augmenting the
night sky, giving amateur stargazers heaps of info on constellations and
planetary movements. And last but certainly not least is
Zombies, Run!, a running game and audio adventure that has you building
a base to fend off the living dead. Neat.
