Celebrating the launch of a new online art platform, as well
as the first ever London Technology Week, 140 creative folk from around
the UK are expected to take over the Tate Modern for a 24-hour
hackathon.
What The Space will actually do is commission a range of projects -
large and small - across a range of art forms and industries including,
creative and digital, technology and coding, art and culture sectors.
It's won the support of Tim Berners-Lee, David Hockney and the Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei.
Speaking about the project Berners-Lee said: “Artists wake us up to
all that happens in the world. The Space can make that happen on the
web."
Commenting on the launch and the ambitious hack,
Boris Johnson said: “On the eve of London's first ever Tech Week, It is
absolutely right that The Space launches at Tate Modern with the world's
largest art hack.
“Well done to The Space for offering
audiences and artists from technical, digital, creative industry and
traditional arts the chance to develop new art forms and new digital
art.”
London Technology Week - which starts today -
comprises a week of face-to-face events and activities for the
technology and digital community.
Event formats will be many
and varied from conferences and workshops to meet-ups, hackathons, demos
and open houses and, if you're curious, you can find more information
