Baby Dies After Dad Daniel Cox Seen Allegedly Beating Him

A Kentucky man who police say was seen driving down a highway beating an infant in a car seat has been indicted on a murder charge in the death of his 4-month-old son.

Court records say witnesses called 911 on Aug. 6 after seeing a man repeatedly hitting a child in a car seat while driving along a highway. After Cox left the unresponsive infant with the baby's mother, she frantically called police.

The baby died the next day.

In her court filing, Chrystie said Cox returned the child "all beat up" after having him for only a couple of hours.

"I called 911 as soon as I seen my son," she said in the document. Jayceon was not breathing and had no pulse, court documents show. Emergency medics tried to resuscitate the baby, who was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital. Police wrote that Jayceon's left eye was swollen shut, his right cheek was swollen and he had "major bruising on his back and buttocks."

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Robert Fraction told The Associated Press on Sunday that Jayceon died of an "inflicted traumatic injury to the head."
