According to figures released by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, the UK registered over 15,000 new electric cars in 2014, marking a 300 per cent increase compared to the year before. The whopping sum is far greater than any other market in the continent.
In second place was Germany (up 70 per cent) followed by France (up 30 per cent). The figures also show that interest across the continent was split fairly evenly between hybrid vehicles (36,836) and all-electric cars (38,495), with the total number of registrations representing just 0.6 percent of the overall market. It shows Europe is proportionally similar to the US in electric car adoption, with sales in the States at around 119,710 in 2014 - just over 0.7 percent of the market
