NBC and NBC Universal are apparently following the trend of the remake and planning a modern reboot of "Xena: Warrior Princess," according to The Hollywood Reporter. While the project is said to be in the very early stages, original executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi are allegedly on board. The modern take on "Xena" will also reportedly have a "Hunger Games" flair to it. THR reports that producers are looking for a new Xena that embodies the charisma and wit of Katniss Everdeen. The Huffington Post could not immediately reach NBC for comment.
The original series, starring Lucy Lawless, was a spinoff of "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and ran in syndication from 1995 to 2001. While there's no word whether or not Lawless will be involved in the rumored reboot -- and her rep was not immediately available for comment -- we know the actress is definitely a fan of bringing Xena back. Lawless recently told HitFix that she fully supports a "Xena" remake and urges networks to acquire the rights to it. "Don't waste this opportunity," she said. "Reinvigorate that franchise ... They're fools not to bring it back."
