Beauty Tip: What is Hair Plopping?

It is a technique gaining popularity among those who have to manage curly hair. Essentially, plopping involves tying up your wet hair in a cotton T-shirt or a microfiber towel and letting it dry. This allows your curls to stay intact, wards off frizz, boosts volume and prevents you from playing with your hair and frizzing it out.

How To Plop Your Hair:

  • Wash and condition your hair as usual. If you use styling products, make sure you apply them before you tie up your hair.
  • Spread out a cotton T-shirt or a microfiber towel, on a flat surface.
  • Bend over the cloth and position it on the cloth, such that most of your hair is on the cloth.
  • Take the far end of the cloth and drape it over the back of your head.
  • Start twisting the sides of the towel away from your face. One you are done, it will look like you have two big twists at the sides of your head.
  • Straighten up, and twist the rolls towards the back of your head into a bun and secure with pins or a hair tie.
  • Leave it till you feel your hair has dried out — usually 20 to 30 minutes.
  • When you take out the T-shirt, ensure you don't touch them, so as to prevent the fizz.
