Android Smartphones Are Not Up-To-Date

Google has new figures released over the fragmentation of the Android operating system. It shows that more than three quarters of all Android smartphones currently in use worldwide are run on the now two-year-old Android 4.4 Kitkat or lower. This means that the vast majority of all Android smartphones currently remains vulnerable to a variety of dangerous vulnerabilities that have been discovered recently.

According to Google, currently run 15.6 percent of all active Android smartphones on the now one year old Lollipop Android 5.0 version of Android. Only 7.9 percent of all units are equipped with Android 1.5 Lollipop, until recently, the latest version of Android.

Since early this week, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is available for the first Nexus smartphones and tablets from Google itself. In the coming months, several smartphone manufacturers Android 6.0 update Marshmallow like to offer for existing smartphones. In practice, however, that manufacturers only the more expensive smart phones provide an update to a higher version of Android. Since the vast majority of all Android smartphones sold worldwide fall in the lowest price ranges, get the majority of all Android smartphones during their lifetime never an Android update.

Thus leaving most Android smartphones in the coming years still vulnerable to the recently found dangerous Stage Fright 1.0 and Stage Fright 2.0 leaks. In addition, regular new security vulnerabilities found in older versions of Android that makes an older smartphone increasingly vulnerable and unsafe.
