The new 'While you were away' feature, much like Facebook, shows major tweets from a user's network since the last login and shows them on top of the timeline.
The report quoted the company describing the feature in November, "Every time you open the Twitter app, you'll see something great." The 'While you were away' recap of tweets feature was announced alongside the upcoming "instant timeline" feature that is also due to be released.
CNBC's Eli Langer also spotted the new 'While you were away' on his Twitter mobile app on New Year's Eve.
A search query for 'while you were away' on Twitter reveals that the feature is now available to a considerable number of users. The report mentions that some users saw "the feature as early as the first week of December." "The algorithm that Twitter uses to source your 'best' tweets from your friends is crucial to its success," adds the report. In other news, Twitter on Thursday shared the list of most popular New Year 2015 resolutions shared by its users on the micro-blogging platform.
