$16: Xiaomi Mi Band 1S Unveiled With A Heart-rate

Xiaomi's long-awaited and oft-leaked update to the popular Mi Band has been officially revealed. The new Mi Band 1S adds an important feature, missing in the predecessor, and that's a heart-rate monitor.

Measuring a slightly different 37 x 13.6 x 9.9mm, the Mi Band 1S may not fit in the existing bracelets, if you've piled up different colors from the old version (36 x 14 x 9mm). The new model also weighs a half a gram more than the 5.0 of the Mi Band. An IP67 rating for dust and water protection has been kept too.

The same 45mAh battery is inside the 1S, and while the previous model carried a 30-day endurance promise, we imagine the heart-rate sensor will take a significant toll on it, if used often enough.
The Mi Band 1S will be available in China starting November 11 for a price of CNY99, or just short of $16. The two models will be sold simultaneously, the original Mi Band priced at CNY 69 ($11).

Offer: Get 50 Dollars To Activate Samsung Pay

Samsung is now offering $50 for activating and enrolling a compatible card on Samsung Pay. @SamsungMobileUS tweeted a link with all the terms and conditions for this promotion.

Samsung Pay is one of the very few mobile payment solutions that simulates the magnetic strip of a card so a specialized NFC terminal isn't needed to make a transaction. The promo period started yesterday and will be open until November 19. It seems to require that Samsung Pay be activated during the promo period, so it isn't certain if existing Samsung Pay users are eligible.

Users will have to activate the Samsung Pay app using a Samsung Account ID and register one compatible credit or debit card. A transaction is not required to be made for the offer to be fulfilled. Afterwards, an offer claim form needs to be submitted through https://samsungpromotions.com/samsungpayoffer. The form asks for the WiFi MAC address and the IMEI of the Samsung phone being used. 4 to 6 weeks after submitting the form, look in the mail for a $50 check in your name.

The offer requires one of these eligible devices:
Only legal residents of the 50 Unites States, D.C. and Puerto Rico are eligible.

Sony Announces New A68 SLT Camera

Sony has announced a new member in its mostly forgotten SLT range of cameras, i.e. cameras that sit between DSLRs and mirrorless cameras with a fixed translucent mirror that allows the AF to continue working even while shooting.

The a68 has a 79 point autofocus system, which Sony is calling 4D FOCUS, for some reason. The translucent mirror technology allows the camera to have continuous tracking and 8fps burst mode with continuous autofocus. Behind the mirror is a 24 megapixel APS-C EXMOR CMOS sensor with an ISO range of 100-25600 with a new BIONZ X image processor.

The OLED viewfinder has a resolution of 1.4 million dots, and the tilting 2.7-inch LCD has 460k dot resolution. The camera also features built-in image stabilization that works with all 34 A-mount lenses. It can also record videos in up to 1080p with 50Mbps XAVC S codec.

The a68 will be available starting March 2016 for €600 body only or €700 with DT18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM II lens.

Cute video explains the essence of Tizen

The Tizen OS is still very much in its infancy, but in its short 3 year lifespan it has come a long way and shows great promise. Now, you might not think much of the platform and that is perfectly understandable, considering its limited spread and immaturity when compared to the big boys, but Tizen is growing at an impressive rate and with Samsung and Intel backing it, it might very well be the next big OS to fuel the industry.

The clip itself is meant as a calling card of sorts, but it still shares quite a bit of insight on how Tizen works and what it does. Don't expect any technical details, but you might just get the initial orientation that you need.

The “Changeling” star and her “Fight Club” hunk attended the AFI Fest 2015 Opening Night Premiere of their new film “By the Sea,” both clad in some snazzy formal finery.

In his new interview with WSJ Magazine, Brad extolls the virtues of his lovely wife- "When Angie has a day off, the first thing she does is get up and take the kids out. This is the most important 'to do' of the day. No matter how tired she might be, she plans outings for each and all. She has an incredible knack for inventing crazy experiences for them, something new, something fresh.

I may be the bigger goof of the pair, but she invents the stage.” Jolie adds, "We wake up, we make breakfast. In our domestic life, we're Mom and Dad. And often we're dorky Mom and dad, which the kids find ridiculous.”

Kate Winslet Sings Praises of Topless Liam Hemsworth

Being a big movie star certainly has its perks, and Kate Winslet thoroughly enjoyed working with Liam Hemsworth on the forthcoming flick “The Dressmaker.” In her interview with Graham Norton, the “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” actress recalled a certain scene that took 12 hours to shoot and required the “Hunger Games” hunk to peel off his shirt over and over again.

Kate gushed, "We struggled to keep a straight face during that scene. Poor Liam, for 12 hours straight we kept making him take his clothes off. We didn't mean to! My teenage daughter was furious that I got to be the same space as him and at that moment. She just made a series of sounds!".

Angelina Jolie Covers WSJ Magazine for November 2015

Given all that she’s accomplished, both personally and professionally, it’s only natural that Angelina Jolie is the honored recipient of WSJ Magazine’s Entertainment/Film Innovator of the Year award. In her cover story for the November 2015 issue, the “Girl, Interrupted” gal chats about her new movie “By the Sea” in which she starred alongside husband Brad Pitt as well as served as director- “It was not easy. We just had to be brave and say, ‘OK, honey, we’re strong enough to do this; let’s somehow use this to make us stronger.’”

Angelina also noted that her relationship dynamic with Pitt had to change while they were on the set- “We had to stay in our corners, like boxers, and not be husband and wife. It was very hard to do those scenes without Brad and I taking care of each other. Normally in between takes, you’d make sure that the other’s OK, but we had to be able to really get ugly.”
