Uber Is Recruiting Old People As Chauffeur

Uber is partnering with “Life Reimagined,” a non-profit wing of the AARP, to lure the US’ most aged citizens into becoming chauffeurs. Apparently, the manifestation of late capitalism in app form is not contented with its current cache of drivers and is thirsty for the labour of olds looking for something to do.

Uber will graciously provide a $US35 bonus, “equivalent to a full tank of gas in many cities,” after our grandparents successfully deliver 10 people to their destinations.

She visited with us for a while, and it's hard to explain, it just felt so natural. She was so down to earth, so genuine.

Khloe Kardashian: Caitlyn Jenner Transition Was “A Hard Time"

While everyone has been so positive about Caitlyn Jenner’s gender transition (she won an ESPY for goodness sake!), Khloe Kardashian wants the world to know that seeing her stepdad go from man to woman also had its complications.

In her interview with “The Project” on Thursday (July 30), the E! reality star explained, “With Caitlyn, I mean, it's a beautiful thing that she's transitioned and that she is strong enough to have her own voice and wanting to make such monumental, beautiful moves and be that crusader to do so. But I think there was a hard time for the entire family, that we were all transitioning with her, but in front of an audience, I think that's not really the normal way to go about it, you know. There is a lot of raw emotions- it's hard to do in front of a camera.”

Khloe added, “We were trying to be really open and raw with it. And I think, we all got through it and we are all over, that's completely behind us. So we are just happy for her. We just want her to be happy. But there was definitely a moment, that was, really tough for all of us.”

Rigorous Exercise May Cut Arthritis Risk

High-intensity exercise may help ease symptoms of arthritis, a chronic disease that causes inflammation in the joints, says a new study. Patients with arthritis often have reduced endurance and are at an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

"This is why it is especially important for arthritis patients to keep fit and work on their cardiovascular endurance," said one of the researchers Anja Bye from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

The study involved 18 women between the ages of 20-49. Twenty sessions of hard training on a spinning bike was conducted for ten weeks. The results showed a tendency to have less inflammation and the participants also experienced significant increase in maximum oxygen intake, meaning that they reduced their risk of cardiovascular disease.

The participants saw a small reduction in body mass index as well as an increase in muscle mass as a result of the training. The study was published in European Journal of Applied Physiology.

Arthritis affects about one percent of the population, and about three times as many women as men. Mostly adults are affected, but the disease can occur in children as well.

Beauty Tips: Natural Scrubs For Your Skin

Facial scrubs help get rid of the dead outer layer of skin in a gentle manner. This exfoliation, when done once a week, can help make the skin smoother, brighter and younger. The best time to use a scrub is generally after sundown, when you are ready to call it a day.

Papaya and Pineapple

  • The enzymes from these fruits help get rid of dead and dull skin and can make your skin look brighter. Scrubs with these key ingredients are ideal for normal skin.

Nourishing Almond and Olive Oil

  • When your skin is parched, scrubs with almond and olive oil can replenish lost nourishment. These ingredients help maintain the skin's natural oils, thereby making it soft and smooth. If you have dry skin, you must use these scrubs once or twice a week.

Hydrating Glycerine

  • If you have an oily T-zone and dry cheeks, you need ingredients in your scrub that can help lock in the moisture and maintain a non-greasy effect on your oily zone. Scrubs with glycerine and hyaluronic acid help combination skin types, if used twice a week.

Berry Scrubs

  • Scrubs made with fresh berries - strawberry and blueberry - are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. These have minute particles that are great exfoliants and can nourish the skin.

Beauty Tips: Benefits of Papaya

With its soft butter-like consistency, the sweet papaya, that is available throughout the year, is a rich source of nutrients and anti-oxidants, making it a favourite with women who want to have glowing skin and thick manes.

Here's how you can use this fruit in your skin and hair care routine..

Skin care

Nourishes Skin:
  • Containing Vitamin A and Papain enzyme, papaya helps remove dead skin cells and inactive proteins, thus rejuvenating your skin. It also helps keep your skin hydrated. If you want glowing skin, use papaya-honey mask. Mash half a papaya and mix it with three spoons of honey to make a smooth paste. Apply it gently on your face and neck. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse with cold water.

Reduces Blemishes:
  • Suffering from acne? Apply finely grounded paste of raw papaya on your face and leave it for half an hour. This will help you get rid of the unwanted blemishes on skin.
  • Treats cracks: Besides face, mashed papaya can also be used to treat sore and cracked heels.

Hair care

Promotes Hair Growth:
  • According to studies, the nutrients in papaya help prevent balding. Eating the fruit atleast thrice a week can help reduce hair thinning.
Controls Dandruff:
  • Hair mask containing papaya can help treat dry and flaky scalp. Remove the seeds of a raw papaya and blend the fruit with half a cup of yoghurt. Leave the paste on your hair for about 30 minutes and then, rinse.
Natural Conditioner:
  • As it is rich in minerals, vitamins and enzymes, papaya acts as a natural conditioner, making your hair softer and smoother. Blend papaya, banana, yoghurt and coconut oil together into a thick paste. Apply it to damp hair. Wrap a towel or use a shower cap for half an hour to generate heat in your scalp. Rinse with warm water.

Beauty Tips: How To Repair Damaged Hair After Colouring

Dyeing your hair in different colours might be fun, but it eventually takes a toll on the quality of your hair. Here are some tips for damage control.

Don't Shampoo Your Hair More Than Twice a Week
  • The scalp naturally produces oils which protect and nourish the hair, so be sure to not shampoo it more than twice a week.
Avoid Hair Dryers
  • This can be a difficult habit to break, but you should dry your hair naturally. If you have to use a heating device, make sure it's on low settings.
Brush With An Appropriate Comb
  • Use a wide-toothed comb and only brush your hair once it is completely dry. If you untangle it while it is wet, you may risk breakage.
Deep Condition Your Hair
  • After you wash your hair with shampoo, apply conditioner to it and wear a shower cap. Leave the conditioner on for 30 minutes and then wash with cold water.
Apply a Hair Mask
  • There are a variety of 'hair masks' that you can make with eggs, milk, honey or bananas to improve the quality of your hair.

Beauty Tips: How To Fill In Thin Eyebrows

A pair of well-done eyebrows can instantly change your features. If you have thin, barely-there eyebrows, we show you how to fill them, without overdoing it.
  • First, mark the ends of the brows. Ideally, the inside point should line up with the outside of your nose.
  • For the outside point, line a brush from the outer corner of your nose to the outer corner of your eye. Your brow should end along the same line.
  • If you can't draw, invest in eyebrow stencils that are available in the market. These are helpful if you are looking for very well-defined brows. They will guide you as to where to fill in, so that you get clean lines.
  • If you want a defined look, opt for a pencil in the shade of your eyebrows. For a more natural look, go for a power.
  • Don't forget to tap off the excess power from your brush before applying it. If using a pencil, see that it is sharp so that you can draw in tiny strokes. Do the same for the power.

Overall I love his progression and growth.”

Of course, the interview was done before Scott and Kourtney broke up, but still Khloe’s remarks seem to give hope to the possibility that they’ll reconcile. She gushed, "You can’t deny how much he loves Kourtney. And I do think he tries. We’re very much involved in each other’s lives."

Reese Witherspoon Chills with Kenny Chesney

Being a celebrity definitely has plenty of perks, and when Reese Witherspoon attended Kenny Chesney’s concert in Pasadena, California, she managed to score a backstage pass! The “Sweet Home Alabama” babe snapped a selfie with the country superstar after his Big Revival Tour performance at the Rose Bowl, and she couldn’t have looked happier.

Ms. Witherspoon captioned the shot, “What Southern girls do on Saturday night! Gettin’ country with @kennychesney.” Reese has always been vocal about her southern upbringing, and she’s even launched a lifestyle website called Draper James to that end.

Rachel McAdams: Considering Lead Role in “Doctor Strange”

She’s been busy promoting her new movie “Southpaw,” and it sounds like Rachel McAdams may have already found her next big project. Eva Longoria: Yes I Wear Glasses!

She’s the face of a new campaign for Australian discount eyewear brand Specsavers, and Eva Longoria has been accused of faking her need for glasses just to get the gig. Jenna Clarke of the Sydney Morning Herald claimed, “Eva was in town representing a budget eyewear chain, but according to photographers that have been snapping her for close to 15 years, she doesn’t wear spectacles. I’ve only found two photos of her ever spotted wearing glasses outside the house, oh and the few occasions she was seen looking uncomfortable and unsteady wearing a pair around Sydney this week.”

Never one to back down from a fight, Longoria replied to Ms. Clarke with a slew of photos of her bespectacled self along with a fiery letter- “If you had done your journalistic duty (it’s actually not that hard, a more thorough google job, or one phone call to my camp and they could have provided you with the documentation) you would see that I have been wearing READING glasses since May 3 2013. The reason your lazy journalist research of ‘googling’ didn’t turn up pictures of me on the ‘red carpet’ is because I don’t need glasses to see far, only to READ.

So unless you are in bed with me at night, or in the morning at my breakfast table reading the newspaper, then you probably won’t find a ‘paparazzi’ shot of me. And sorry I haven’t worn glasses on a ‘red carpet’ Jenna, but shockingly I am not usually READING a book on the red carpet! So next time you want to write an article calling someone ‘shameful’ why don’t you do your research because that is your responsibility as a ‘journalist’ and the Sydney Morning Herald should hold you to that ‘high’ standard even though you are just the Lifestyle journalist. It sounds like you need some glasses yourself.”

Archaeologists Discovered Mysterious Catholic Box

The box, found in Jamestown, Virginia, contains seven fragments of bone and pieces of a lead ampulla, a type of flask used to hold holy water, CT scans revealed. The discovery raises questions about the roots of Catholicism in the U.S. -- especially at a time in history when anti-Catholic sentiment was high among the majority-Anglican colonists.

Researchers from the Jamestown Rediscovery Foundation and the National Museum of Natural History on Tuesday announced that the reliquary, along with the remains of four of Jamestown's earliest leaders, had been discovered in ruins of the first American Protestant church.

Remains of the four men -- the Rev. Robert Hunt, Capt. Gabriel Archer, Sir Ferdinando Wainman, and Capt. William West -- were discovered in the church's chancel, an area near the altar typically reserved for clergy. The church was built in 1608, a year after the Jamestown colony was founded.
Hunt was Jamestown's first Anglican minister and is known to have been a peacemaker among rival colony leaders. Archer may have been hiding his Catholic faith as he sought to overthrow one-time colony leader John Smith.

Apple Music Signs Up 10 Million In Just 1 Month

Apple CEO Tim Cook told investors last week that many millions had already signed up to the three-month free trial offered at launch. Even if it does have 10 million subscribers, it’s still well short of the 75 million active users of Spotify and Pandora’s 79.4 million subscribers. Although when it comes to making money, both of those two have free offerings whereas Apple Music is entirely subscription based.

Music streaming, on the whole, is booming right now and in the UK alone the weekly download total surpassed 500 million for the first time this month. While much of the mass media has embraced Caitlyn Jenner’s gender transition, Raven Symone isn’t exactly convinced she’s ready to be an advocate for the LGBT community. During Monday’s (July 27) episode of “The View,” the outspoken co-host voiced her concerns over Jenner’s rush to be the face for the movement.

Raven began, “I appreciate all she’s going to do for the community. I think it’s wonderful. I’m just surprised at how many girlfriends she has all of a sudden, and how much she’s showing these stories [of transgender youths] all of a sudden. I think it needs a light being shined on it. It’s just a lot for me in one show, and you just came out. I mean, when I came out, I didn’t go and go hardcore and be like, ‘I’m going to save the world for LGBT.’ You got to learn first.”

On Saturday night (July 25) the “Gin and Juice” rapper was pulled over on suspicion that he was driving under the influence of drugs, though he later maintained it was all due to racial profiling.

Tha Doggfather recorded several videos in which he stated, “We getting sweated by the police right now. I don’t know what country we in but they sweatin’ us right now for nothing. This mother*cker right here sweatin’ me for nothing. Pulled a n*gga over for nothing. Taking us to the station where I gotta go pee in a cup for nothing. I ain’t did nothing. All I did was came to this country and did a concert, and now I got to go to the police station. For nothing.” On Sunday, Snoop tweeted, “2 all my Sweden fans U can blame YA police dept for never seeing me again in your beautiful country its allways a few d*cks that f*ck it up for everybody its been real thank u Jah bless!! F*ck the police.”

“Ant-Man” Scores Second Weekend at #1

Despite the relatively low attendance at movie theaters across the nation this past weekend, “Ant-Man” still managed to rake in enough ticket sales to remain in the top spot. The Paul Rudd flick landed $24.8 million, putting it just ahead of Adam Sandler’s opener “Pixels,” which earned a respectable $24 million.

Coming in at number three, with a weekend take of $22.1 million, was “Minions,” followed by “Trainwreck” ($17.3 million) and “Southpaw” ($16.5 million). “Paper Towns,” “Inside Out,” “Jurassic World,” “Mr. Holmes” and “Terminator: Genisys” comprised the remainder of the Top 10 movies at the weekend box office.

Here's How Sitting Harms Your Body

Here's what really happens to your body after sitting through a sit-com marathon.

On Your Spine

The problem: Sitting for long hours curve your spine into a C-shape, and keeping it that way for too long can cause cramped and aching muscles.
The solution: Consider a recliner or tucking a pillow behind your chair. It'll keep your back straight and comfortable, and help you maintain proper posture.

On Your Quads

The problem: According to a recent research, people who say they watch television frequently are 40 per cent less likely to exercise than non-TV watchers. Sitting for long hours also puts pressure on those inflexible quads.

The solution: Use the sitcoms you watch as motivation. Watching someone fit onscreen (sometimes, on a daily basis) makes you more likely to want your body to look like the characters you admire.

On Your Gut

The problem: Piling on extra kilos. Every two hours of TV you watch a day, you're 23 per cent more likely to become obese (and 14 per cent more likely to develop diabetes).
The solution: Avoid the food shows. It makes you crave unhealthy food that you wouldn't generally have access to in your kitchen.

On Your Brain

The problem: After a long TV marathon, you may start resembling a zombie. Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital recently found that a typical binge in front of fluorescent light (about four hours) before going to bed makes it harder to fall asleep, reduces REM sleep, and makes one groggy the next day, even after clocking eight hours of sleep. The reason is that the blue light which the television emits, inhibits the release of melatonin, a hormone that helps you knock off.
The solution: Limit your viewing to two hours after work . If you can, avoid it on an daily basis. Daytime bingeing won't affect your sleep cycle. But why would you choose to vegetate in front of the TV on bright summer afternoons?

On Your Lungs

The problem: Among the many health hazards it causes, sitting for long hours can also shrink your lung capacity by a third, so you get less oxygen, which causes a decrease in mental focus the second you sit on the couch.
The solution: Sit on a chair with a pillow behind your lower back. It is a position that helps open your lungs.

On Your Heart

The problem: Listen to your heart beat.An Australian study of national health records found that, on an average, every single hour of television watching after 25 reduces life expectancy by close to 22 minutes.

The solution: Researchers have discovered little mortality risk for people who watch less than an hour a day. Pick a show that's a real brain numbing deal, so you're more likely to need time between episodes.

The Healthiest Oils For Deep-Frying

Take your pick from these cooking oils for your fried sweets and treats, so you can gorge during the festivals without guilt.

Groundnut Oil:
  • It is high in good fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats) and has a longer shelf life than other cooking oils. Groundnut oil has a high smoke point (temperature at which oil starts to break down and burn). Another reason to use it in cooking is that it doesn't absorb or transfer flavours of the food.
Sunflower Oil:
  • Look for the high oleic variety of sunflower oil for deep-frying. High oleic oil is simply oil that's high in monounsaturated fats and has no harmful trans fat. Mild in flavour and high in antioxidant vitamin E, high oleic sunflower oil is largely monounsaturated and has a high smoke point.
Soybean Oil:
  • It is extracted from soybean, which naturally contains antioxidants that remain in the oil even after they have been extracted. Soybean oil also has Omega-3 fatty acids and polyunsaturated fats. Choose the high oleic variety for this type too.
Canola Oil:
  • Extracted from a relative of mustard called rapeseed, canola oil is the third heartfriendliest cooking oil (after olive and sunflower oils). What makes it suitable for deep-frying is its neutral flavour.
Tip A deep-fat thermometer is the most accurate method to find out if the oil is hot enough for deep-frying. If you don't own a deep-fat thermometer, use this trick. Drop a ball of dough or a square of bread into hot oil; if it rises to the surface crackling, the oil is hot enough.

Power Up Your Bench Press

Some key tips for one of the most important workouts in weight-training:

It's easy to stay with the routine you are comfortable with. But ask yourself this question: "Am I really training out of my comfort zone?"

Most people are not. Yes, they train hard but they're not pushing themselves as hard as they are capable of. So switch your workout up, vary the intensity. Vary the rest between sets. Do super sets. Additionally, start thinking about "less is more". The quality of your reps, sets and exercises is more important than how many you do. Stick to training your chest once or twice a week.

Getting a good night's sleep cannot be stressed upon more. It is part of the basics of building muscle. Your muscles repair and grow while you're sleeping and resting, so getting enough rest and sleep is essential for muscle growth. Get at least eight hours sleep and plenty of rest between workouts.

Also, pay attention to form and the 'negative' part of each exercise. If you don't know what a negative is, it's the lowering phase of an exercise. In the case of the bench press, it's when you lower the weight to your chest. Negative training is highly underestimated and can have a dramatic effect on your upper body strength.

Lastly, eat well. Each meal should contain a good serving a protein (in various forms) and complex carbohydrates. This is essential for increasing your bench press. If you're not eating enough calories per day, don't expect and additional pounds on your bench.

Beauty Tips: Effects Of Stress On Skin And Hair

Acne:
  • Since our skin and mind are deeply connected; the moment stress hormones are released, oil production in the skin increases and leads to acne breakouts.
Ageing:
  • It is easy to identify people who are stressed because the signs of ageing such as wrinkles and dark circles start to show on their face much earlier than they should.
Hair Loss:
  • Due to stress, our blood vessels get constricted and the hair follicles are unable to get the required quantity of oxygen and other nutrients, which are necessary for hair growth. Lack of nutrients often leads to hair loss for various people who are stressed.
Here are some of the best ways to reduce stress:
  • Get a nice massage. It will help to relax your body and open all the blocked energy channels.
  • Exercise for some time. It motivates you and lifts your mood. It helps to energise you and is the key to a healthy body.
  • Meditate for at least 15 to 20 minutes per day. You can do it any time, any place at your convenience. Sitting in peace can help you to focus your thoughts and help release stress.
  • Eat small frequent meals and eat healthy food. Some foods that are really good for busting stress include almonds, blueberries and salmon.
  • Sleep for at least eight hours. Lack of sleep makes a person cranky and irritable. Nothing can beat a good night's sleep in releasing stress.

Giant Squid Caught On Video By Startled Russian Sailors

Russian sailors recently came across what is likely a rare giant squid, which can be seen in a video posted to YouTube. The bright red creature was apparently trying to eat a fish the men had snared, but the sailors pushed it off its prey before it jetted back down into the depths.

The exact species of the animal hasn't been confirmed, but the creature doesn't seem to be big enough to be a rare colossal squid, according to the video's description. It's probably a giant squid, a relative of the colossal.

Giant squid sightings happen occasionally, but the bulk of the animals are usually found dead, washed up on a beach or trapped in fishermen's nets. The massive cephalopods can measure up to 43 feet long from the tip of the mantel to the end of their tentacles. The largest ever found weighed nearly a ton, and clocked in at 59 feet, National Geographic reports.

Em blurted out, “This a true statement, I see the b*tch in you, Caitlyn. I keep the pistol tucked like Bruce Jenner’s d–k / No disrespect though, not at all / No pun intended, that took a lot of balls.” Afterwards he explained, “The rhyme, by the way, it’s all in fun. I just say sh-t to say it. I don’t even know if there’s anything…It’s one of them things that’s not…It’s very rarely, very rarely personal. Put it this way, if it was ever personal, someone would know it. It’s all in fun.”
