Indian E-Waste Market Growth to Overtake China

The e-waste market growth in India will surpass China's, a report has said. The e-waste market in India will grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 26.22 percent over the period 2014-19, surpassing China which is poised to grow at 19.41 percent CAGR during the period 2013-18, the research report said Tuesday.

According to the report from Dallas, US-based Reportsnreports.com, lack of effective e-waste disposal mechanisms is hindering market growth. The presence of various toxic substances in e-waste invites the frown of environmentalists, which could lead to filing of PILs. This could significantly affect market growth in the future.

"Newer methods of preventing biological hazards have emerged over the years. Growing need to reduce toxins discharged from unattended e-waste has triggered more investment in the market. High obsolescence rates of technologies have triggered increased demand for efficient e-waste management in India," the report said.

According to the research report, the need to prevent biological hazards is one of the major trends upcoming in this market. "Average discard/replacement rates have increased with a corresponding increase in buying power, advances in technology, growth in the IT industry, and increased awareness among the country's younger populace," the report said. E-waste or electronic waste broadly describes loosely discarded, surplus, broken, obsolete, electrical and electronic devices. E-waste comprises whole range of electronic and electrical items.

Ford Sync teams with Life360 to tell your loved ones when you’re driving

Life360's latest integration effort has announced it will use CES 2015 to show off what it can soon do with Ford Sync AppLink. AppLink allows iPhone and Android-based mobile devices to both control and run approved apps simply by using a Ford car's steering wheel buttons, radio, or supported voice commands.

One such app is Life360 and its new feature called Drive Mode. Available for Android phones in the second quarter of 2015, Drive Mode enables the Life360 app to first pair with the Ford Sync system via Bluetooth. Life360's Drive Mode, which will also be available for iOS devices sometime next year, will allow the app to not only appear on the driver's phone and on the car’s dashboard but also send a notification to the driver’s family members. The notifiction will alert them when their loved one is driving and shouldn’t be reached, as well as alert them once again after the driver has stopped driving.

Life360 is clearly targeting reckless teens and overprotective with its new Drive Mode feature and Ford Sync integration, hoping it can help reduce accidents related to unsafe driving and texting. The app will also let family members track Ford Sync-enabled cars on a map, which is again, ideal for parents who want to keep a watchful eye on their teens. Life360 launched in 2008 and claims to have more than 48 million families actively using its app. Meanwhile, there are over 10 million Ford Sync-enabled cars on the road.

You can make a 143-megapixel camera using a scanner

Dario Morelli's scanner-based medium format camera
Scanners are really extra-large image sensors at heart, so it stands to reason that you could make a decent camera out of one. Right? Well, Dario Morelli just proved it... and then some. His homebrew medium format camera uses parts from an Epson V30-series scanner to take enormous 143-megapixel photos whose resolution puts even the better professional cameras to shame.

Morelli went so far as to repackage everything in a custom enclosure, so the device is relatively portable and will sit on a tripod. The catch, as you might suspect, is that this camera still behaves like a document reader while you're shooting. You need to connect to a computer and a big external battery to get anything done, and there's no live viewfinder to help you frame the shot.

An exposure typically takes minutes rather than seconds, and the limited light sensitivity (Morelli believes it can manage ISO 50 and eight dynamic range stops) largely rules out nighttime photography. But hey, it works -- and it's proof that do-it-yourself cameras can sometimes best their professionally-made counterparts.

Take Your Bentley To The Next Level With The Bentley Smartphone

The two luxury brands have teamed up as part of a five year partnership, and the first fruits of the deal is a smartphone that only those who own a Bentley can afford, as it'll set you back a cool £10,700.

In typical Vertu style the phone is made from premium materials including a sapphire crystal glass front, quilted calf leather back in Bentley's signature Newmarket Tan and a titanium frame.
There's even a tiny Bentley B wings motif on the front, and we were told by a representative that it's half the size of the smallest logo Bentley makes. Impressive then that you can pick out the feather detail on the wings.

On screen you'll find custom Bentley wallpapers, unique clock widgets with a clever lighting effecting which changes as you tilt the device and a Bentley hub with the latest news from the manufacturer, suggestions for great drives and exclusive experience days.

Remote control

Vertu for Bentley

For those keen on the tech you get a 4.7-inch full HD display, 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 13MP rear camera and Android 4.4 KitKat - so at least Vertu hasn't skimped on specs. Owners of the Bentley Flyer Spur will benefit even more from this Vertu handset, with an app allowing you to control the climate control, heated seats, radio and rear window blind from the phone.

You need to be within Bluetooth range of the car for these features to work, but it performed well during our hands on time and the intuitive interface made it simple to use. If you fancy adding this handset to your exotic collection of technology the Vertu for Bentley is available to buy, although you'll need to act quick as it's limited to just 2000 units.

Bieber Falls Several Times Before Pulling Off Skateboarding

These days, the New York Knicks aren't the only ones embarrassing themselves at Madison Square Garden. Just feet outside the World's Most Famous Arena, where the Knicks have floundered to a 5-28 record, Justin Bieber put on a performance that he'd probably like to have back.

A skateboarding aficionado, the 20-year-old pop star was spotted practicing his craft in Midtown Manhattan. Dressed in black pants, a black sweatshirt and a black Chicago Bulls hat (more on that later), Bieber recorded several falls before pulling off his desired trick. Here's a video of Bieber's boarding, with the biggest tumble coming at the :34 mark:

In Bieber's defense, he's not afraid to embarrass himself in public. This isn't the first time he's laughed off a skateboarding miscue, and he's even posted video of himself wiping out.

The 5 Weird Exercises That Can Make You Age Backwards

Check out this inspiring video below:

This workout program is built similarly for men and women. Steve and his wife Becky swear that men and women can, and should, work out in the same way. No need to work out separately or do different exercises.

There are 5 common mistakes to avoid if you want to slow down the aging process and achieve your dream body:

1. Stop The Diets! Stop eating those low-fat foods that keep being advertised as “healthy” for you. Your body needs fat in order to run correctly! If you’re constantly counting all those calories and eating only low fat, you cannot enjoy eating out! Worrying yourself to death will definitely not make you look younger…

2. Quit your crazy long cardio workouts! – Cardiovascular conditioning can be achieved in far less time and with less effort than those long gym classes and hours on the treadmill. In fact, running on the treadmill and other long bouts of cardio work outs can actually accelerate the aging process by increasing free radicals in your body and there are far smarter ways to exercise.

3. Stop blaming everything on your age! Studies have shown that even people in their 90s have been able to gain muscle tone in less than a month with some lifting exercises. People can change their bodies at any age, from 25 to 95! You should constantly challenge yourself because it’s the challenge and the constant work towards improvement that keeps you young! And what better challenge is there than staying fit and healthy?

4. Drink More Water! Water not only hydrates you and keeps you healthy-it also helps to burns fat! Water suppresses hunger and keeps your liver and kidneys healthy. Just drinking a dozen ounces a day will drop years from your face by keeping your skin hydrated and healthy!

5. Work out LESS! Steve and Becky are not saying to stop working out. They are just saying that you should go by the old-school resistance training instead of the hours upon hours of cardio classes like spinning and kickboxing. This resistance-training program includes just four specific exercises that will have you done with your workout while others at the gym are just warming up!

PlayStation Now to feature in Samsung Smart TV 2015 lineup

Nearly a year ago Sony CEO Kaz Hirai announced PlayStation Now, a cloud-based gaming service that lets users access PlayStation games without requiring a console. So far it’s only been available on Sony devices, but that’s all about to change. Next year PS Now will be available on Samsung Smart TVs. Users will be able to access the service via an app downloaded through the TV’s smart Hub. No actual PlayStation is needed, instead you stream games from the Web straight to the TV.

Our vision has been to open the world of PlayStation to the masses by offering the service on the devices they use every day,” said Masayasu Ito, Executive Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. in a statement. Partnering with Samsung is a key step toward realizing this vision, as we can reach a broader audience of consumers who may not own a PlayStation console to show them why gaming with PlayStation is such a unique and amazing experience.

All that’s required is a decent internet connection and a Sony DualShock controller, then you’re away. There’s a vast library of 200 PS3 games to start playing immediately. At the moment PS Now is only available in the US and Canada, but with the service expanding to other platforms it’s likely we could see it reach the UK soon. There’s no word on when the PS Now app will launch but we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime PS Now will be demoed on Samsung Smart TVs at CES 2015. We’ll be on hand to report all the latest from the show floor in Las Vegas.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha Limited Edition with leather designs

Samsung launched the Galaxy Alpha, a somewhat cutdown Galaxy S5 on the inside, but a much better device on the outside. Right from the beginning it was clear that Samsung wanted people to think of the Alpha as a more fashionable smartphone, a premium device that did what you wanted it to do while also looking the part, too. While the specs of the device aren’t all that, the Galaxy Alpha is definitely a good-looking device built from some premium materials. That doesn’t seem to have been enough for Samsung though, as they’ve released a Limited Edition of the device covered in snakeskin leather in a number of colors. The good news? These look great. The bad news? They’re for the French market only.

Over at Samsung’s French website, the company details the partnership with Jean-Baptiste Rautureau and Free Lance to create some really nice looking Galaxy Alphas. They start at €649 ($795) and are available in four different styles; Red, Brown, Black and a fetching Blue color. There’s even more bad news for people looking to get their hands on these as they’re only going to be available in 100 units each. Limited, indeed. Other than the fact that these are high-couture names from the fashion industry, there’s little different about these Galaxy Alphas. These are the same 4.7-inch, 720p device that we reviewed a few months back.

Amazon Prime signs up 10m new members this holiday

Amazon claims in a press release that its low prices and free two-day shipping over the festive period encouraged people to flock to its site to sign up for a free trial. The site also cites the surge in membership due to the 700,000 books, over one million songs and tens of thousands of TV shows and movies that Prime members have at their disposal.

Amazon even touts its one-hour delivery service, Amazon Now, as a reason for the big draw in customers. While the service only debuted last week in Manhattan, Amazon plans to expand its availability in 2015. "We are working hard to make Prime even better and expanding the recently launched Prime Now to additional cities in 2015," Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in the press release, without mentioning specific cities.

As well as taking the time to brag about its growing customer base, Amazon also shared some facts and figures about people’s online shopping habits this Christmas. According to the online retailer, nearly 60 per cent of customers ordered their online shopping using a smartphone or tablet. To no su

Samsung echoes eggs with 360-degree Ring speakers

CES may still be a week away, but that hasn't stopped Samsung from whipping the covers off its latest audio products, a pair of egg-shaped speakers promising omnidirectional sound. The Samsung WAM7500 and WAM6500 each look distinctive, with their 2001: A Space Odyssey meets Alien pod aesthetic, but according to the South Korean firm they should sound even better too, thanks to some special tuning tech. Samsung has dubbed it "Ring Radiator", and it's all about the groove running the speakers' periphery.

Table_Top_WAM7500Exact details on how the system works haven't been shared - we'll likely have to wait until Las Vegas to find out all the nuances - but according to Samsung the sound can "flow in a 360-degree radius."

Meanwhile, the system also promises "the perfect balance between treble and bass."
The WAM7500 is the larger of the two, and is designed for table-top use.

As for the WAM6500, that's smaller, and intended to be portable.
That given, it has a battery inside for keeping playback going while you're out.

Each can connect to TVs, smartphones, or other sources; Samsung doesn't give specifics, but some sort of wireless support seems likely to fit with the portable potential of the WAM6500 at least. The curvaceous egg-speakers aren't the only oddly shaped music systems from the firm this year. Samsung will also be bringing a new set of curved soundbars to CES 2015, building on the 7500 series announced back in September with new 8500, 6500, and 6000 series models.

Together, the four speakers will match curved TVs spanning 45- to 78-inches in size and, in the case of the 8500 series, do so while supporting 9.1 channel sound. No word on pricing or availability at this stage.

Iran trials suicide drones for Kamikaze strikes

Iran has tested a "suicide drone" designed to crash explosively into targets on land or in the air for the first time, part of a huge military exercise underway near the Strait of Hormuz. The so-called "mobile bomb", dubbed both the Yasir and the Raad-85 by local press, is believed to be based on a homegrown - though foreign inspired - drone design revealed by the Iranian army last year, said to be capable of flying for around ten hours before dive-bombing its victims.

Although the Yasir drone Iran demonstrated a year ago is built within the country, it's believed to be based on a design from Boeing. In late 2012, Iran seized three Boeing ScanEagle drones, claiming at the time that they had infringed on its airspace. The Yasir follows their pattern closely, with a 360-degree imaging system for surveillance. The Raad-85, however, has a more aggressive purpose. It's intended to be piloted remotely to a target - which could be on the ground or at sea, or even another flying craft - and then crash into it, triggering an onboard warhead at the same time.

Iran's first test of the system is part of a six-day military exercise the country's armed forces is operating near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most frequented waterways for oil supplies being distributed around the world. Bridging the gap between smart bombs - which generally have some rudimentary guidance system - and weaponized unmanned vehicles, the "suicide drones" intended prominence in the Iranian army's arsenal is still unclear.

VAIO to offer smartphones starting next month

Sony marketed laptops under the Vaio name with some success. Last summer Sony decided to spinoff the laptop branch of the company into a standalone brand simply called VAIO. Word has surfaced that VAIO is now getting ready to toss smartphones onto the market in a move that will see VAIO directly competing against Sony, its former parent company.

VAIO will be working with Japanese carrier Japan Communications for the smartphones. Japan Communications is a mobile virtual network operator and uses the networks of other traditional carriers to offer communications services. Sony currently holds only 5% of Vaio after the spinoff.
VAIO has offered no exact date for the smartphone launch, but rumors suggest the devices could launch as soon as January. That could mean that the devices would turn up at CES next month. As for the device, the smartphone has a 5-inch screen and will use the Android operating system.

The device is also tipped to feature an app that will manage email, phone, and video calls. VAIO believes that it can grab a share of the smartphone market with a device that has a superior design for a reasonable price. There is lots of competition for devices in the budget market and Vaio will be hard pressed to succeed without a clear winner in design and price.

How To Keep Mosquitoes Out Of Your Yard

Repel

The first method of controlling the mosquito population in your yard, the use of repellents, is the least violent — gently persuading the marauding insects to hunt for blood elsewhere. Spray-on repellents like Off or Aeroguard, all of which utilise the chemical DEET, are very effective — so long as you don’t minds smelling like a camp site. If you’re going for a dinner party with less of a backwoods feel, try a mosquito coil instead. Mosquito coils burn Citronella oil. This yellow liquid is derived from a species of lemongrass, is a proven insect repellent — it’s been listed by the FDA in the US as a Generally recognised as Safe biofungicide since 1948. It works because the smell of citronella masks the CO2 we exhale that mosquitoes find attractive.

Mosquito coils, however, are generally not as effective as sprays and dissipate quickly if there is any amount of wind. Over in the US, the CDC also recommends any product containing Picaridin, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, p-Mentane-3,8-diol (a synthetic form of Lemon Eucalyptus oil), and IR3535 (a biopesticide used in Europe for the last two decades) if you insist on going the spray route.
Another option is to install bug lights. These opaque, yellow bulbs work because humans and insects perceive different wavelengths of light — humans see longer wavelengths from blue to red, while insects tend to see shorter the wavelengths from ultraviolet to blue. This is why bugs congregate around both conventional light sources and black lights as well. By coating a bulb in an opaque yellow finish, the light it emits is essentially invisible to insects. And if they can’t see a light source, they can’t swarm there. The problem of course is that everything in your yard is now tinted yellow.

Kill

If your yard is drowned in yellow light, everything reeks of Citronella, and you’re still getting bit, well, you’ve only got one option — all-out war. Now you just need to make sure you bring a big enough weapon. If you prefer chemical warfare, misters are the way to go.These devices release an ultra-fine mist of insecticide that kills insects on contact (and/or a fog of repellent) over a set coverage area. Fancier models like the All Clear 4000 can cover up to 3000 square feet with effects typically lasting a few hours.

If the thought of dousing your back yard wholesale with the insect equivalent of mustard gas makes you uneasy, you’ll want to take a more targeted approach — trapping. Mosquito traps perform the opposite function as Citronella candles — instead of masking the CO2 we breath out, traps duplicate it. These devices work either by converting propane into a stream of CO2, heat, and water vapor to attract the biting insects — though some use chemical or visual attractants as well. Mosquitoes are lured into a trapping bag where they eventually dehydrate and die. Traps are an effective long-term solution to controlling the local mosquito population, but they certainly aren’t very satisfying — unless you count occasionally throwing away bags of dead insects as satisfying. What you want is something that electrocutes the vicious little bastards and lets you know it’s working with a with satisfying ker-ZAP. You want a bug zapper. Bug Zappers have been around since the 1930s. They use a fluorescent light to attract insects and an electrified grid surrounding the lights to kill them. Now, while listening to mosquitoes meet their demise at 2000 volts makes for a great summer evening, zappers also attract and kill a number of beneficial insects as well.

Prevent

Now that you’ve got them on the run, it’s time to take a page out of General Sherman’s playbook and start your own scorched earth policy. An operative once said, “If your quarry goes to ground, leave no ground to go to” and that’s exactly what you need to do. Mosquitoes actually begin their lives under water. Females will lay their eggs in just about an standing pool of water they can find, so that’s where you strike first. Keep your rain gutters clear and your unused bird baths empty to reduce their breeding grounds. If you keep a rain barrel, install a drip oil can. These devices maintain a thin sheen across the top of the water — drowning the larvae already in there and preventing more from being deposited.

United Airlines sues site that found loophole for cheap tickets

You know how it's often cheaper to fly from Chicago to Paris by booking a flight to Dubai, and then just getting off at the stopover, which happens to be Paris?

Well thanks to a lawsuit from United Airlines and booking site Orbitz, you do now -- the airlines are suing a site called Skiplagged, which arranges "hidden city" connection discounts.

Here's how it works: airlines often charge more for popular routes like Chicago/Paris than for less popular, but much longer, multi-connection routes like Chicago/Dubai. The site susses out such routes and steers you to the cheaper tickets -- you just need to get out at the "hidden city" stopover.

Airlines, of course, have a huge problem with this. According to Bloomberg, they told Orbitz that the practice is fraudulent and that they'll void a ticket without refund if they catch travelers doing it. They reason that it exploits the hub-and-spoke system, causing public safety and logistical problems with passenger counts. Other experts say airlines don't like it because it costs them money, and American Airlines even threatened to raise fares due to increased use of the trick. United and Orbitz are seeking a court order to halt the practice, and while Skiplagged had no comment, it's now soliciting donations from users to fight the suit in court. So far, it's two-thirds of the way to its goal.

Microsoft Could Ditch IE For A New Browser Named 'Spartan'

Windows 10 should bring lots of changes to Microsoft’s operating system, including a possible overhaul of Internet Explorer. Many believed the beleaguered browser would be getting an update with codename “Spartan,” including much needed additions like extension support. Now, ZDNet reports that Spartan may in fact be a new browser entirely.

So what’s different? Well, rumours say the underlying structure of IE/Spartan won’t be changing that much. According to ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, IE will continue to use Microsoft’s JavaScript and rendering engines. However, the browser will be light-weight and akin to its rivals like Chrome and Firefox with extension support. This also brings up the question if Spartan will be portable on non-Windows systems, such as Android, iOS, or OS X. We don’t know as of yet, but if it truly is mimicking Chrome and Firefox, the idea isn’t too crazy.

Foley’s undisclosed sources say Windows 10 will ship with both Spartan and IE11, though the latter may be for backwards compatibility only, and that Spartan will also be available on the Windows 10 mobile OS. The name Spartan could be a codename for Microsoft’s new browser, but the company does have an affinity for using Halo references for its software (i.e. Cortana). Whatever it will be called, this news seems more involved than just changing the name of the browser as the IE team suggested during a Reddit AMA earlier this year.

Spartan seems like it could be a “two birds, one stone” solution. Kill off the brand name that has become synonymous with poor browser performance, and create something new that addresses all the shortcomings of its forebears. Every new leak makes Windows 10 seem like the software saviour Microsoft needs. Hopefully we’ll learn more about Spartan and everything else about Microsoft’s new OS at the Windows 10 event in late January

How To Turn An Entire Watermelon Into One Giant Jelly Shot

How to turn an entire watermelon into one giant jelly shot
How To: At your New Year’s Eve party, blow your guests’ minds harder than a Yonshakudama firework with a watermelon that splits to reveal a jiggly jelly core. All of the vodka and flavour, none of the seeds.

The process is really quite simple. Take a watermelon, split it in half, scoop out the meat, replace with jelly mix and vodka, cover and refrigerate. And, best of all, the rind doubles as a serving platter.
Remember: drink responsibly this New Year’s Eve.

These Are The 20 Most Pirated Movies Of 2014

As 2014 draws to a close, it’s time for us to look back on another year’s worth of gratuitous movie pirating. And surprisingly enough, this year’s most torrented movies weren’t actually all that terrible. You’ve got taste, ya thieves. Of course, that’s not to say that all 20 were winners. But according to Variety’s data from security firm Excipio, quite a few Oscar nominees hit the top 10, which is more than we can say for last year’s set.

And there is some weirdness, heresince Excipio for some reason decided to count the 1987 Robocop and this year’s as one movie. But that little hiccup aside, here are your 20 most pirated films in all their unpaid for glory:

1. The Wolf of Wall Street (30.035 million)
2. Frozen (29.919 million)
3. RoboCop (29.879 million)

These Snowmobile Vertical Drops Look Like An Insane Snow Rollercoaster

It never ceases to amaze me how people insist on breaking their necks or getting spinal cord injuries by jumping off vertical slopes on top of heavy snowmobiles. The guys on the video below just keep going for it in some rather crazy drops.

Tim Burton-era Batmobile Model Features Pop-up RC Machine Guns

You’ll probably be a little disappointed to learn that this incredibly-detailed 29-inch long model of the Batmobile used in the Tim Burton-era Batman films isn’t fully remote control — you can’t drive or steer it.

But while it sits there looking beautiful, you can remotely deploy its pop-up machine guns, blast smoke from its afterburner, and trigger various accent lighting and sound effects, which is admittedly still pretty cool.

Limited to just 200 units it makes sense why each of these Batmobiles will set serious collectors back $US2,500 when finally available next year. But with a tiny Batman revealed in the opening cockpit, and a remote control shaped like the Bat symbol, it’s hard to resist making a pre-order, until you remember what you just spent on the holidays.
