Swine Fu Killed 20 in India


Swine flu has killed 20 people in the state, while 79 have been found positive, health minister Kaul Singh Thakur informed the House while leader of opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal said doctors were scared of treating the patients and had even vacated rooms close to influenza ward, which was sending out a wrong message.

When Dhumal raised the matter on Tuesday, the minister informed the House that 13 swine flu deaths were reported from Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla, and seven from Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College and Hospital at Tanda in Kangra district. "Two patients died of swine flu at Indira Gandhi College and Hospital Shimla on Monday night," he added.

Thakur said that in the two medical college of the state 302 samples of swine flu were taken of which 79 were found positive. He said that maximum seven deaths were reported from Shimla district, 6 deaths were reported from Kangra district, three deaths were reported from Solan district, one death each was reported from Bilaspur, Chamba, Kullu and Sirmaur districts.

He said that 50 swine flu patients were treated and sent home. It has also been noticed that the treated patients were being isolated by their families. "A doctor had to visit the home of a treated patient and share a cup of tea with him to dispel the fear of swine flu," he added.
