Nestlé plans to build 'food-replicating microwave

Nestlé has just unveiled a secret project that aims to create a food replicator that they describe as “the next microwave.” The device in question would scan our bodies for missing nutrients, and then provide us with a supplement, or even food, depending on what we need the most.

A brainchild of Nestlé’s Institute of Health Sciences, the ‘Iron Man’ project is looking to improve the health of people who suffer from diabetes, obesity, and other nutrition-related illnesses.
'Iron Man is an analysis of what’s missing in our diets, and a product, tailored to you, to help make up that difference,' said NIHS director Ed Baetge, in an interview with Bloomberg.

The team consists of around 100 scientists who hope that one day the device will be a typical home appliance. 'Out comes your food at the press of a button,' says Baetge. 'If we do this right, it can be the next microwave in your kitchen.'
Sounds great, but don’t start dusting off your wallets just yet - the trek-tastic creation is still a long way off, with a release estimated anywhere between 2019 and 2024.
