Actress Lindsay Lohan is suing the makers of Grand Theft Auto 5, alleging that a character in the game is based on her image
Lohan filed her suit against Take Two Interactive and its
subsidiaries, Rockstar Games and Rockstar North last Wednesday, stating
that the developers had used her likeness for the basis of a character
in GTA 5 called Lacey Jones without her permission.
The
suit accuses the developers of using Lohan's image to boost sales
without permission. It also states the developer used Lohan's voice,
image and even outfits from her clothing line. The
character Lohan claims is based on her, Lacey Jonas, is a young starlet
the player runs into in Vinewood (GTA 5's version of Hollywood) hiding
from the paparazzi. One of the game's protagonists, Mike, then helps her
outrun them as Jonas shrieks at him about her problems in the passenger
seat.
Lohan shot to stardom off the back of films such
as Mean Girls and the remake of Freaky Friday, but in recent years she's
faced legal and alcohol isssues, and has been in and out of rehab
around six times.
Grand Theft Auto 5 was released in
September of last year and broke international sales records, earning $1
billion in its first three days. At E3, it PS4 and Xbox One versions of
the game were announced, slated for release this autumn
