PS4 outsells Xbox One for eighth month straight in the US

Over in the states Sony continues to exert its dominance over Microsoft by topping August console sales for the eighth month in a row. The latest figures from American data company NPD were released earlier this week, unsurprisingly showing the PS4 maintaining its spot as the number one video games console.

As always, Sony was quick to release a statement patting itself on the back. Guy Longworth, PlayStation Marketings senior vice president, wrote in a statement: "PlayStation 4 was number one in hardware sales for the eighth consecutive month and remains the cumulative leader for next generation game consoles."

He also added, "For the third consecutive month, PlayStation was number one in combined (PS4 + PS3) home console hardware sales.” Meanwhile in Microsoft’s corner, things are starting to look up. Xbox One sales rose during August in the US and nearly doubled the number of consoles shifted in July.

This is largely due to the new Madden NLF 15 Xbox One bundle as well as the Kinect-less Xbox One package gaining momentum. The figures also show that new release Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Edition sold more on PS4 than on Xbox One, while The Last of Us: Remastered was the best-selling first-party title on any format.

It was also revealed this week that Sony has sold one million PS4 units in the UK. We can’t see the console ranks changing anytime soon, as September looks to be another good month for Sony with The Sims 4 and Destiny already off to strong starts.
