Virgin Media’s TiVo television service is getting a massive UI overhaul, the first update for the box in around four years. The
update focuses on content discovery, and will recommend shows based on
user viewing habits and automatically download them in the background.
Meanwhile
the menu will retain its grid layout but make it easier for users to
navigate through TV programmes and on-demand content. A
predictive search bar is also on the spec-sheet, as well as categories
for downloaded content such as Kids, Movies and TV & Radio.
Behind-the-scenes
changes include support for HTML5 apps (like iPlayer, BBC News etc),
which means apps will be able to roll out their updates more quickly in
the future. On the surface, probably the most obvious
change is the swapping of the iconic red background for a fresh plum
colour scheme along with refined fonts.
Plus thank to a new deal between Virgin Media and Opera, more apps will also be available on the app store. Virgin
Media’s TiVo update will start rolling out from the end of October and
is expected to reach all customers by the end of the year.
