Sony's revised its revenue forecasts for this year, with the
Japanese firm now expecting losses of around 230 billion yen - roughly
£1.3bn. The electronics company says it published the new
report 'to address the significant change in the market and competetive
environment of the mobile business.'
It's unsurprising, especially considering the rampant purchasing of Apple's new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, alongside a raft of other big name smartphone releases.
The news means Sony's set to post a loss for the fifth time in the last six years.
Sony
reckons these tough mobile times will lead to a 180 billion yen loss of
revenue in the mobile sector - that's smartphones, tablets, and
wearables.
It's grim news, as the firm just announced plenty of new mobile devices, including the new flagship Xperia Z3, the Z3 Compact, the Z3 Tablet Compact, and the Xperia E3.
Sony also revealed some new additions to its wearables line-up at IFA, unveiling the Sony Smartwatch 3 and the Sony SmartBand Talk. Despite Sony's struggling mobile wares, other departments seem to be faring well. Last week we heard that the PS4 outsold the Xbox One for the eighth month in a row.
The firm also reported that it had managed to flog one million PS4 consoles here in the UK so far, again trumping Microsoft's flagship console. You can check out Sony's full report over at its website.
