Are we about to see the iPhone Plus?

We've seen plenty in terms of design, specs, components, and features for the upcoming iPhone 6 duo, but we're not yet savvy to the names. There's been a few tentative suggestions for the larger device, including the iPhone Air and the iPhone L, but now there's a new name added to the speculative roster.

Enter iPhone 6 Plus, the bigger brother of the (expectedly named) iPhone 6. The latest rumours come courtesy of Macotakara.jp, describing the 'iPhone 6 Plus 5.5-inch LCD model'. He also adds "I do not know whether there is a 128GB model," referring to rumours of an increase in storage capacity for the larger model.

Original iPhone leaks led to a suspected 'Plus' tag, and Apple's already used the product tag before with the Mac Plus, although we've not yet seen 'Plus' actually used on an iOS device. We're not sure how likely the Plus moniker is. There's clearly a need to Apple to differentiate between the two models, but the firm's minimalist approach would indicate a single letter being used, like the iPhone 3G or iPhone 5S.

This means the most likely candidate is the iPhone 6L, although that's a pretty boring name , and adding too many different letters could create product line-up confusion - something Apple has desperately tried to avoid. Unfortunately, we just can't say for sure what Apple will tag its supersize smartphone up as. On the bright side, there's only a few hours left to wait until we're all in the know.
