Assassin’s Creed film pushed back until 2016

Look away now Assassin’s Creed fanboys because we’re about to be the bearer of bad news.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed film has been pushed back until 2016.

The film adaption of Ubisoft’s popular video game series was previously expected to be released in August 2015, but “insiders” say the project won’t be ready in time to meet that slot. The film’s script has apparently gone through "several rewrites" and the production itself has "grappled with scheduling issues.

Hopefully the studio can sort this one out, with everyone hoping (us included!) that they can break the deadlock and finally make a video game-movie worth our money. Nevertheless, the Assassin’s Creed film is still moving forward with Michael Fassbender set to star in the leading role and Justin Kurzel in the director’s chair.

Last month Fassbender assured fans that the film will honour the game as much as possible and incorporate the same awesomeness that made the franchise such a hit. Earlier this month it was also rumoured that Robert Downey Jr. had signed to play Leonardo Da Vinci in the film, suggesting the plot could revolve around the events of Assassin’s Creed 2 where the inventor was introduced.

As well as Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft has several other films in the making based on its Far Cry, Rabbids, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon franchises.
