Android users have had BBM on their handsets for close to a year.
“We are intent on bringing the most popular application experiences to Windows Phone, and with BBM, we are pleased to bring many of its top features to the Windows Phone platform,” says Bryan Biniak, Vice President and General Manager, Developer Experience, Microsoft. “BBM on Windows Phone brings our customers the secure, easy-to-use messaging experience they demand, and we expect that new features will roll out in the months to come.”
According to BB, the messenger service boasts an impressive 85-million monthly active users, and touts 50-person group chat, schedule-sharing, and signature 'read' and 'delivered' notifications.
BlackBerry first announced that its messenger app would be leaving the nest and joining iOS and Android back in May last year.
It landed on iOS in September, and then on Android a month later. We first heard rumours of BBM coming to Windows Phone 8 in October 2013, when BBM creator Gary Klassen said "BBM will not be limited to just Android or iOS. We are open to other platforms also."
