Fear not, for the upcoming compact executive saloon can be locked, unlocked, heated, cooled and even started from a smartphone from anywhere in the world. Dubbed InControl Remote, the smartphone application can pre-programme the car's climate control up to seven days in advance, alert the police if it is stolen and pinpoint the vehicle's whereabouts in a busy car park. It's just one of many technological treats that will feature on the car that Jaguar hopes will blow away its Germanic rivals with a swathe of tech treats when it is launched in 2015.
Among the goodies is a new 8-inch touch-screen infotainment that will be the highlight of an all-new dashboard. The crystal clear unit will also serve as Wi-Fi hotspot that enables high-speed internet access for a number of devices. Jaguar has hinted at Apple CarPlay compatibility but, for the time being, it is only confirming its upcoming InControl Apps feature, which allows users to tether both Android and Apple products and access a number of car-friendly applications via the touch-screen.
This gadget feast will prove quite the distraction for drivers, so Jaguar has attempted to offset this with a new laser head-up display that will project high-contrast information, such as speed and sat nav instructions, directly onto the windscreen.
Although other manufacturers have beaten Jag to the HUD party (we're looking at you, Mercedes), the laser unit employed by the British marque is said to be clearer and a third light that those used by rivals. We will have to wait a few weeks to find out the full extent of the XE's abilities but it's already shaping up to be one clever cat.
