Bookseller Barnes & Noble has teamed up with Samsung to launch a Nook-toting tablet that's optimised for reading. The new Galaxy Tab 4 Nook makes use of Android 4.2.2 with the customary Nook skin, and sports wholehearted Samsung hardware.
"The
Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook is the most advanced Nook ever, delivering
the great Nook experience our customers have come to love, with the
high-performance tablet features they've asked for," says Michael
Huseby, CEO of Barnes & Noble.
The Tab 4 Nook touts a
7-inch HD screen, a 3MP rear snapper, a 1.3MP front-facing camera. It
weighs in at just 276 grams and measures up at 8.9mm side-on. It
supports full WiFi connectivity, and also makes use of Samsung Multi
Window, meaning Nook-ers can use several apps at once, and share content
between the apps at the same time.
Nook's store flogs
over 3-million books, and makes available a bunch of quirky e-wares like
comics and graphic novels, as well as the usual fare like novels,
cookbooks, and travel guides. The device also has access
to the Nook Newsstand, which retails a huge digital collection of
bestselling magazines for both single copy and subscription purchases.
Nook apps, games, and video also make an appearance, as well as the usual goods courtesy of Google's OS. Excitingly,
B&N are running a launch offer in the US that loads up every Tab 4
Nook with $200 of free Nook reading and entertainment content. The
ad-free device is available in 8GB black and white variants, and will
retail at $179 (roughly £108). It's still unclear whether or not there's
a UK launch in the works.
