Sony has a budget 6.1-inch phablet in the works

Sony is reportedly arming itself with another smartphone to show off at IFA 2014 alongside the more-than-likely Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. It's a phablet with a massive 6.1-inch display, albeit with a less-than-adequate 854 x 480 resolution.

Known only as the Sony D2203, the device was revealed by a listing on GFXBench along with its specs. On the inside this mysterious handset packs a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

A VGA front camera, 5 megapixel rear camera, 4GB onboard storage and support for external expansion through microSD cards is also detailed in the benchmark. It will also come running Android 4.4.2 out-the-box when it arrives, whether that be in major markets or just exclusively Asia at this point is unknown.

This isn't the first time Sony has veered outside the high-end market with a larger handset, as it announced its 5.3-inch mid-range Xperia T3 only recently. This year's IFA kicks off in Berin on September 5, where all of the biggest names in tech will be parading their latest gadgets on Europe's biggest stage.
