Is this Apple's new reversible lightning cable?

Earlier this week, photos thought to be Apple's new reversible lightning connector leaked online, thought to be taken during the production stage at supplier Foxconn.

Well, adding credibility to the news is Sonny Dickson, the man who revealed the iPhone 5C last year.
Dickson posted a photo on Twitter of the purported cable, showing a USB end that could slot into the power adapter or computer either way up. While the USB connector on the current Lightning cable is attached to the bottom of its metal housing, the connector of the newer cable is attached to the center.

If indeed true, its reversability will save a lot of heartache as we all know how infuriating it is trying to plug in Apple devices.  It is also possible the new lightning connector could utilise USB 3.0 technology, as current Lightning cables support only USB 2.0, although at the moment we're just guessing.

A likely roll out for the revamped cable would be with the iPhone 6, which is widely expected to be announced at an Apple media event on September 9.
