Twitter
has announced that it will be offering advertisers the ability to run
Promoted Videos on your stream. Social network rival Facebook has had
auto-play video ads for some time now.
However, unlike
Facebook, the tech boffins at Twitter have instead opted to only play
videos when the user chooses to watch them. That’s largely thanks to the
Twitter Video Card technology it has been testing since spring.
If you haven’t seen them, the moving ads are nestled neatly within a user’s timeline. The
company is currently beta testing the feature, meaning it’s
increasingly likely you’ll see them popping up in the near future.
It’s
unclear if the video ads will be making their way to the various
Twitter clients. We’d place a fair bet on them coming to the social
network’s official app at the very least sometime soon.
