Sharp's set to flog
its bezel-free Aquos Crystal smartphone outside of Japan, with the
phone confirmed for a US release on Sprint. The gorgeous
cellular sports 5-in of screen with a not-so-spectacular 1280 x 720
resolution, although the bezel-binning design is sure to have passers-by
gawping at your blower.
The Aquos Crystal packs a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU, 8GB of internal storage, and 1.5GB of RAM. Nothing special, we know, so it's clear this is a mid-market handset. The device also makes use of an 8MP rear snapper, and a 1.2MP front-facing shooter, and runs off Google's Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS.
It's confirmed to be going on sale under US carrier Sprint, but there's no word of a UK release date unfortunately. The phone has already been pegged for a Japan release on 29th August, but this is the first word of the Crystal leaving home soil.
While the specs aren't brilliant right now, the firm is expected to launch a Crystal X in Japan this December, although once again we've no idea whether it will retail internationally. The upgraded handset will reportedly tout a 5.5-in 1080p screen, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 CPU, and a 13MP camera, putting it alongside more high-end devices.
