Oculus adds Mac support

Oculus yesterday announced that it has released an update to its software developers kit (SDK) that will add support for Mac owners. Up until now, only Windows PC-users have been able to develop apps for the Facebook-owned virtual reality headset.

In addition to adding to support for Mac OS X, there is a new version of the Oculus Runtime and Unity Tuscany Demo for Mac. However, it’s not all plain sailing for Mac-based developers. Mac display drivers are not yet available, so developers will need to use the Extended Display Mode when developing on OS X.

To get full use out of the software development kit, developers will need a Oculus Hardware Development Kit. There’s a wait list for one and it will set you back $350 (£210).
Linux users luck out though; there’s still no word on when Oculus will add support for the open source operating system.
