Beauty Tip: Home Remedies To Treat Hair Dye Allergies


















The use of hair dye is a trend these days among both men and women for various reasons.Hair dye contains chemicals such as ammonia, propylene, glycol and PPD, that can cause allergy. This allergic reaction may manifest as itching or burning of the scalp.

Some rashes are visible on the ears, hands, face and even on the scalp. In severe cases, patients could also experience breathing difficulties, in which case, immediate medical attention is required. The allergic reaction may show up immediately or even after one or two days of application of the hair color.

Following are the home remedies that are found to be effective in alleviating symptoms of hair dye allergy:

1. Lemon Juice:

Lemon juice is known for its antiseptic properties and can relieve scalp caused due to hair color allergy. Application of fresh lemon juice mixed in water over the scalp is good to treat allergy. Lemon juice with yogurt is also good to treat scalp allergies after use of hair color.

2. Jojoba Oil:

The wonders of jojoba oil with its excellent moisturizing properties prove good to treat scalp redness, itchiness, inflammation caused by hair dye allergy.Massaging a small quantity of jojoba oil on the scalp before going to bed is a good way to treat scalp problems.

3. Baking Soda:

A paste of baking soda and water is also good to help with allergies caused due to hair dye. The paste can be soaked on the scalp for about 10 to 15 minutes and then rinsed well with water.

4. Chamomile Tea:

Chamomile tea with a few cubes of ice can make for a good rinse for the hair and scalp. Skin inflammation and itching due to hair dye allergy can be alleviated by washing hair with this tea twice a day (2).

5. Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil has antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammation properties that can treat allergies due to the use of hair dye. It can alleviate skin itchiness, redness and inflammation due to allergy.

6. Aloe Vera:

Aloe Vera gel works its magic to relieve itchiness and inflammation caused by an allergy to hair dye. This is good to bring relief from dryness and itching. Apply aloe vera gel onto the scalp using your fingers and spread evenly. Use a mild shampoo to wash it off after it is allowed to sit on the scalp for 10 to 15 minutes.

7. Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil is excellent to treat allergy caused by the use of hair dye. It keeps skin moisturized and is a good remedy for dryness and itchiness caused by the allergy. Apply coconut oil and leave it on the scalp for 15 minutes before washing it off with shampoo.

8. Witch Hazel:

Reap the benefits of Witch Hazel, a herb well known as a natural astringent that works well to resolve allergic reaction due to the use of hair dye. It has antiseptic properties that help combat allergic reactions.

9. Apple Cider Vinegar:

Apple cider vinegar is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties that will help deal with allergies on the scalp caused due to the use of hair color. It is good to relieve dryness of scalp and itchiness.

10. Sesame Seed Oil:

Sesame seed oil works well to treat scalp itchiness and inflammation due to hair dye allergy. This oil provides relief from itchiness and discomfort. The oil may be warmed a little before applying to the scalp. Within a few days, the allergy due to hair dye will miraculously subside!
